Treatment Services

“There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do, instead of what he cannot do"

Diagnostic Evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Pediatric Psychology Associates, LLC & Autism Behavioral Network (ABN) provides diagnostic evaluations for children suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD or autism) as well as other mental health concerns.  Our psychologist or other licensed professionals will work with you and your child to determine what type of treatment will best address his or her needs.  A diagnostic evaluation for autism includes a comprehensive interview and the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation - 2 (ADOS-2) to determine if the child meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Intensive ABA Therapy

ABN specializes in delivering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to children diagnosed with autism.  We provide  an intensive ABA program, that is individually created for each child based on their unique needs.  We provide a team of clinicians to work specifically with your child.  Our method of therapy breaks down concepts into small steps to ensure success, while having fun!  We also help to decrease inappropriate and dangerous behaviors.  We will work with you and your family to help teach your child and manage unsafe behaviors.  ABN's autism team works with children 18 months through adolescence.  All ABA therapy is supervised by a licensed psychologist and licensed behavioral analyst.

We are proud to offer intensive ABA service in the ABN clinic, in the child's home, or a combination of both.

Intervention is focused on the specific needs of the child.  It can include:

  • Increasing eye contact, imitation, turn taking, and waiting.

  • Increasing the child's ability to tolerate being told no.

  • Increasing verbal (vocal) language and/or non-vocal communication skills.

  • Expansion of language comprehension and ability to follow instructions as well as increasing expressive/spoken language.

  • Developing self-help abilities such as toileting, dressing, eating, safety awareness in the home and community, hand washing and teeth brushing.

  • Increasing spontaneous and age appropriate play, social interaction and leisure skills

  • Reducing maladaptive behaviors such as self-injury, injury to others, destruction of property, disruptive behavior, and other behaviors that interfere with learning.

  • Increasing pre-academic and academic skill development.

  • Increasing independence within a group or school-like setting
  • Expansion of social skills, including cooperation and enjoyment with peers.
Outpatient Counseling

ABN is also proud to offer outpatient psychological services at our clinic.  Our licensed providers focus on providing diagnosis and outpatient treatment services for children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavior challenges, and other disorders. Our staff also specializes in working with high functioning individuals with ASD to teach coping strategies and social skills.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children struggling to control their behavior.  Sessions are conducted using a parent-coaching method with a trained, licensed therapist.  The therapist will observe the caregiver interact with the child and provide live feedback on ways to modify the interaction to facilitate learning and to help the children feel calm and secure in their relationships.

PCIT is intended for children aged 2-7 years who display:

  • Parent - child relational problems

  • Refusal and defiance of adult requests

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Low frustration tolerance

  • Easy loss of temper

  • Touchy or easily annoyed by others

  • Deliberately annoying others

  • Blaming others for their mistakes

  • Destruction of property

  • Difficulty staying seated, playing quietly, and/or taking turns

PCIT is a short-term therapy and is generally completed within 12-20 sessions.

Psychological Assessments

If your child's psychological needs require a more in-depth assessment, we offer cognitive, language, behavior, and adaptive assessments.  These psychological assessments can help determine the root cause of the maladaptive behavior.

Focused Therapy

ABN is pleased to offer Focused Treatment for children on the autism spectrum in our clinic with a Licensed Professional Counselor. This limited, or focused, model targets specific goals through 1-2 hour weekly therapy sessions versus the wide scope of goals in comprehensive treatment.

  • increasing socially appropriate behaviors

  • reducing problem behaviors & developing replacement behaviors

  • social awareness & inclusion

  • increasing independence

  • emotional regulation & self-management

  • increasing health & safety skills

The collaborative relationship includes therapy, support, family guidance, and coaching where the family, child, and therapist create personalized goals.
