“There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do, instead of what he cannot do"
-Dr. Temple Grandin
Pediatric Psychology Associates, LLC & Autism Behavioral Network (ABN) provides diagnostic evaluations for children suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD or autism) as well as other mental health concerns. Our psychologist or other licensed professionals will work with you and your child to determine what type of treatment will best address his or her needs. A diagnostic evaluation for autism includes a comprehensive interview and the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation - 2 (ADOS-2) to determine if the child meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Intensive ABA Therapy
ABN specializes in delivering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to children diagnosed with autism. We provide an intensive ABA program, that is individually created for each child based on their unique needs. We provide a team of clinicians to work specifically with your child. Our method of therapy breaks down concepts into small steps to ensure success, while having fun! We also help to decrease inappropriate and dangerous behaviors. We will work with you and your family to help teach your child and manage inappropriate behaviors. ABN's autism team works with children 18 months through adolescence. All ABA therapy is supervised by a licensed psychologist and licensed behavioral analyst.
We are proud to offer intensive ABA service in the ABN office, in the child's home, or a combination of both.
Intervention is focused on the specific needs of the child. It can include:
Increasing eye contact, imitation, turn taking, and waiting.
Increasing verbal (vocal) language and/or non-vocal communication skills: using ASL signs, PECS, I-PAD or other speech devices.
Expansion of language comprehension and ability to follow instructions as well as increasing expressive language
Developing self-help abilities such as toileting, dressing, eating, going to bed and sleeping through the night, safety awareness in the home and community, hand washing and teeth brushing.
Increasing spontaneous and age appropriate play, social interaction and leisure skills (e.g., bike riding, playground activities, games, puzzles).
Reducing maladaptive behaviors such as self-injury, injury to others, destruction of property, disruptive behavior, unusual or repetitive habits, socially offensive behavior, withdrawal of inattentive behavior and uncooperative behavior.
Increasing pre-academic and academic skill development with regard to colors, shapes, letters, basic concepts, reading decoding and comprehension, mathematic calculation, time and money.
- Increasing independence within a group or school-like setting
- Expansion of social skills, including cooperation and enjoyment with peers.
ABN is also proud to offer outpatient psychological services at our clinic. Our licensed providers focus on providing diagnosis and outpatient treatment services for children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavior challenges, and other disorders. Our staff also specializes in working with high functioning individuals with ASD to teach coping strategies and social skills.
If your child's psychological needs require a more in-depth assessment, we offer cognitive, language, behavior, and adaptive assessments. These psychological assessments can help determine the root cause of the maladaptive behavior.
ABN is pleased to offer Focused Treatment for children on the autism spectrum in our clinic with a Licensed Professional Counselor. This limited, or focused, model targets specific goals through 1-2 hour weekly therapy sessions versus the wide scope of goals in comprehensive treatment.
This model can be a transition from comprehensive ABA services, a resource when challenges arise, or may involve working on very specific fundamental goals, including, but not limited to:
increasing socially appropriate behaviors
reducing problem behaviors & developing replacement behaviors
social awareness & inclusion
emotional regulation & self-management
increasing health & safety skills
The collaborative relationship includes therapy, support, family guidance, and coaching where the family, child, and therapist create personalized goals.
